No Cost AWS TCO Assessment

As an AWS Premier partner, we are always looking at options that provide value to our prospects and customers. One of the ways we do this is with our complimentary AWS total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) assessment.  The service helps organizations understand the level-of-effort and potential cost savings when moving on-premises IT infrastructure to AWS.

Eplexity leverages a tool provided by their partner CloudChomp to conduct the analysis. The tool installs in less than 30 minutes, is agentless, and is read-access to your environment. While it can provide a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis within a day it is recommended that the agent runs for a minimum of 48 hours to capture variations in your environment. The longer the agent runs, the more accurate your assessment will be. For example, if you have a peak time of month (eg. month end), we advise running the agent during that time frame to capture your maximum utilization information.

Once the agent has completed the analysis of your environment, the data will be used to look at your current costs and project optimized AWS price scenarios so you can make an informed decision and better understand the TCO associated with your data center transformation. You are also able to quickly understand how to best rightsize your infrastructure when migrating. According to Gartner:

75% of midsize enterprises base their cloud sourcing decision on inadequate financial information.

Additionally, almost half of companies that perform a "lift-and-shift" migration to cloud IAAS will be over provisioned by 55% and will overspend by 70% in their first 18 months. With finite IT budgets, the savings discovered during the TCO assessment combined with your operational efficiency gains through freeing up resources and the related improvements in productivity can be significant.

The assessment provides answers to the following questions:

  • What will it cost to run my current workloads in the cloud on AWS?
  • What will it cost to move my current workload to the cloud?
  • What will I need to provision based on my current utilization, not what I have (over) provisioned?
  • What are my options when dealing with existing software licenses?
  • How does my current on-premises TCO compare to an AWS TCO?

The no cost assessment is designed to simplify the complex and time-consuming process of comparing on-premise costs to potential public cloud costs.  It eliminates the manual approach which can create bottlenecks, inaccurate estimates, and ultimately slow down the decision making process.  The manual approach also often misses elements of the migration that results in on an over-provisioned infrastructure, which in turn accidentally inflates the estimated AWS costs. We have seen this first hand, working with companies who have performed a lift-and-shift migration on their own and are disappointed and frustrated with the results they are seeing in the cloud. The assessment eliminates this frustration, sets expectations, and optimizes environments based on factual data. And when performed first, you'll get all the information you need for your data center transformation before spending a dime.

According to Todd Reese, Eplexity's Vice President of Sales, “Our customers appreciate the ability to see the data first hand and ask questions about their options to our team of AWS Certified architects before they commit to their migration. The TCO assessment is an incredibly easy and painless way for them to assess their potential future cost savings and build a detailed business case for migrating applications to AWS.”
